Recertification - 5 Ways to Reduce Stress

Published on Mar 07, 2017.

Every year around this time, the panic begins. Teachers start receiving letters from the Idaho State Department of Education stating that this is the year to recertify. If you received one of these letters, you might have asked yourself, “Do I have enough credits?”. Or perhaps you are one of those teachers who realized, “Oh no! I need 2 more credits to recertify!”. Here at the NNU Center for Professional Development, we hear your cries. And we are here to help!

Following these four suggestions might help you reduce the stress that often comes with recertification.

1. We suggest that you answer the first question that came to mind when you received the notification, “Do I have enough credits?”. There are a few ways you can verify how many credits you have. You can login to your account to see how many courses you have completed. Alternately, you can request an unofficial transcript which will be emailed to you. It will list the classes you have taken along with the number of credits you have earned through NNU CPD.

2. If you do not have enough credits to recertify, we have options available for you. NNU CPD has several online course options through which you can pick up a quick and easy 1 or 2 credits. Check out our online course catalog for options. You can take online courses through NNU with content provided by ASCD, VESi, or Academic Research Connections.

3. If you do not have enough credits to recertify and you prefer face-to-face courses, NNU CPD offers 2 day summer workshops which are held here on campus and are 1 credit each. The topics of these workshops change each year; they are relevant, interactive, and engaging learning opportunities.

4. Once you have verified that you have taken 6 credits in the last 5 years, you can order your official transcript. All professional development transcripts are provided free through NNU’s CPD. Furthermore, through NNU CPD, you can have your transcript emailed directly to the Idaho State Department of Education. May through August, everyone is ordering transcripts. The request volume is extremely high during that time. Beat the rush by getting your transcript ordered early. This will ensure that your transcript gets to the State Department of Education in a timely fashion.

Recertifying can be stressful for everyone. Our goal here at NNU CPD is to help you reduce that stress. If this is your year to recertify, good luck! For further assistance during this time, please feel free to contact us.
