Course Descriptions

Fundamentals of Leadership

This course will introduce you to the fundamental elements of leadership by focusing on the responsibilities of leadership and growing your understanding of what leadership entails.

Through this course, you will do the following:

  • Evaluate different leadership styles
  • Increase self-awareness regarding behavioral components of leading well
  • Determine personal values
  • Assess personal listening habits
  • Determine decision-making style
  • Evaluate collaboration behaviors
  • Identify approach to conflict resolution

The Supervisor’s Landscape

This course explores the behaviors and tasks that support good supervision from leader, team, and organizational perspectives.

Through this course, you will do the following:

  • Explain the leader behaviors and tasks that support good supervision
  • Understand the importance of equity within a team environment
  • Understand the various legal and ethical elements of supervision that the leader is responsible to uphold and enforce
  • Understand the persons, tools, and processes available to support the leader as supervisor
  • Comprehend the risk factors inherent within supervising, as well as processes and strategies for mitigating risks
  • Understand the leader’s role with advocacy, reporting up, and reporting out

Performance Leadership

A primary leadership responsibility is increasing performance. Performance in integrally connected to engagement and accountability. This course will examine, through the lens of performance, the concept of accountability, what it is, why it is important, and how to achieve it.

  • Examine how increasing engagement increases performance
  • Examine the concept of accountability – what it is and why it is important
  • Explore the dynamics of performance and which structures support the achievement of performance

The Communicating Leader

Communicating well is a key component for optimizing team and organization performance. This course will explore the leader’s primary areas of communication to support the leader's, team's, and organization's success.

Through this course, you will do the following:

  • Explore the purpose and process of leader and team feedback as a core leader behavior
  • Explore how emotional intelligence informs the leader as communicator
  • Comprehend team dynamics in relation to conflict and resolution
  • Explore team norms and agreements and how these support team communications
  • Understand how to lead through intentional, targeted, consistent communications
